I’m only sure of two things:
I still carry pieces of your cross on my back and
lilies were your favorite flower

Those last three months-

A silent drive home from the mall
purse full of stolen makeup

Dinners with my family where no one
bothered to make the conversion

Endless hours spent looking at paint samples
and I was smart to not buy the brushes

The line at the liquor store blended
with the lines on the road

At the same time with you
without you

Then it was summer and you talked me into a country drive. We stopped on the side of the road to watch a cow giving birth in the center of a pasture. But, the calf never rose to its wobbly legs or felt the heat of the Indian summer….it never tasted dandelions.

The mother stood by the calf’s body
long past nightfall
and I stood by yours
long after that

Was this what we meant when we said forever?
It's been months since I've submitted. So there it is...

Lovely to see something from you in my inbox!

I'm confused about the fourth stanza:
Dinners with my family where no one
bothered to make the conversion
I don't get conversion. The marriage of the narrator and their significant other? Religion?

But, the calf never rose to its wobbly legs or felt the heat of the Indian summer….it never tasted dandelions. This is my favorite line.

Either way, lovely work.

It's good to see you back :)

The comparison to the (I'm assuming stillborn) calf is wonderful. Fresh.

A bit sentimental for what I've come to expect of your writing.. lacking your usual wit, but still solid man.

This is seriously amazing.

There is so much pent up emotion that is draining out with every word. Brilliantly written. Props to you for expressing feelings that many of us could not express ourselves. :huggle:

i love the first three lines! they're marvelous.

also, i'm not sure but when you say "where no one
bothered to make conversion" do you mean conversation or conversion because it would make me understand it in two different ways, haha.
